Kotido: Hardcore criminal, Lochul, 17, killed

Kotido | Joint security forces managed to neutralize one hardcore criminal in Kotido, Karamoja sub-region. 

In a statement on Tuesday, Maj Isaac Oware, the Public Information Officer of Div 3 says the Joint security forces neutralized “one profiled and hardcore criminal” in a cordon and search operation conducted in Kotido district.

“On 24 Jul 2023, in the dawn hours, the joint forces mounted a target, search and cordon operations in Lochori Apolloni, a hideout/corridor to degrade criminal elements in north Karamoja,” Maj Oware added.

As a result, he confirmed that the forces neutralized one hardcore and profiled criminal identified as Lochul Andrew aged 17 years.

Now deceased, Oware said he was a son of Lokwanga Adoki, a resident of Lopetai village, Kacheri sub-county.

Two sustained injuries and 40 other suspects were arrested for further screening.

“The criminal elements would use this hideout (Lochori Apolloni) as a springboard to commit criminal acts in north Karamoja, Kitgum and Agago districts in East Acholi.

“The operation meant for recovery of firearms, ammunition, stolen livestock and apprehending criminals for possible prosecution will continue in order to maintain security and relative peace in Karamoja and other neighbouring sub-regions,” Maj Oware said on Tuesday.

Since Operation Usalama Kwa Wote was launched on July 13, 2021, Oware said 913 guns and 6,564 ammunition have been recovered, 26,829 warriors arrested, out of which 1,358 appeared before the army court.
