Arsenal have announced the signing of Dutch defender Jurrien Timber from Ajax. The new No.12 joins Mikel Arteta’s side on a long-term contract.
Timber was signed in a deal worth €40m and €5m add-ons.
Speaking after joining Arsenal, the new versatile defender said, “Now that I am here I feel at home already. Something special is happening here and I want to be part of it.”
The 22-year-old Dutchman made 121 senior appearances for Ajax, winning two league titles and a Dutch Cup.
“Jurrien is a young talented international player, who fits our vision of competing with a young strong squad. I know Jurrien cannot wait to get started and we’re really hoping that he will be a great success here for many years,” Arsenal’s Sporting Director, Gasper Edua said.
Arsenal’s manager Mikel Arteta also said: “We’re excited that Jurrien has joined us. He is a versatile young defender, who will fit into our system and provide our squad with so much added quality.”
The North London club has also agreed a £105m deal with Westham United to sign Declan Rice.
Expectations are that the Westham’s captain will be announced by Arsenal within 24 hours, joining the current team in Germany for a trip to the United States of America.

Once announced, Rice will be Arsenal’s record signing and third addition after Kai Harvertz and now Timber.
