Kampala, May 3, 2023: Uganda lost another top minister, Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo to a gruesome killing on May 2, 2023, in the morning.
Macodwogo, until his death was the State Minister of Labour, Employment and Industrial Relations. He has been a Member of Parliament, Oyam North until his demise.
Eulogies continue to flow, with many asking for a thorough investigation into this latest killing of a top government officer. Engola is the third high-profile person from Northern Uganda to die mysteriously in three years.
On Wednesday, UPC said the country on Tuesday received the shocking news of the brutal murder of the Minister of State for Labour Hon. Okello Engola Charles who was shot down by his own bodyguard from his home compound in Kyanja.
“This murder in cold blood undermines the integrity of the country regardless of the motives,” Arach Oyat Sharon, the party spokesperson said.
“Uganda Peoples Congress (UPC) extends heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased, the people of Oyam, workers and the people of Uganda at large.”

This kind of act, she said, “Is condemned in its totality!” “No one has a right to take someone’s life. This is highhandedness of the highest order. A gun is bought using the taxpayer’s money and should be put to the best usage that promotes our country’s interest.”

“UPC urges the government to set up a Commission of Inquiry to carry out a thorough investigation into these bizarre shootings by some members of government and private security agencies that are claiming lives of our people,” Oyat concluded.
