Lira WordPress Meetup will improve digital content creation in Lango subregion

(Last Updated On: 16 December 2022)

Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events regularly, commonly once a month.

Lira, Dec. 16, 2022: On January 07, 2023, for the first time, several WordPress developers, programmers, publishers, bloggers and enthusiasts will convene at Lira Town College for Lira WordPress Meetup.

Spearheaded by Emmanuel Angoda, Lira WordPress Meetup becomes the 5th WordPress Meetup in Uganda and the only one in northern Uganda.

The other already existing meetups include Kampala WordPress Meetup, Jinja WordPress Meetup, Entebbe WordPress Meetup, and Masaka WordPress Meetup.

Meetup groups are locally-organized groups that get together for face-to-face events regularly, commonly once a month.

It is important to note that WordPress is one of the most popular content management systems (CMS), partly due to its ease of use, and is open source.

CMS is software that helps users create, manage, and modify content on a website without the need for specialized technical knowledge. It helps you build a website without needing to write all the code from scratch (or even know how to code at all).

In today’s highly networked and digitalized world, WordPress has become a favourite tool for digital creators, web developers, bloggers, journalists, researchers, educators, social scientists, politicians, activists and other tech enthusiasts.

Therefore, WordPress has been one of the leading platforms deepening the use of Web 2.0 and 3.0 tools in areas of education, research, and social Sciences among others.

Web 2.0 (2nd generation web) refers to websites that emphasize user-generated content, ease of use, participatory culture and interoperability for end users.

According to websitesetup.org, the most popular CMS in 2022 was WordPress, followed by Wix, Squarespace came third, and Joomla was fourth.

Others are Shopify, Progress Sitefinity, GoDaddy Website Builder, Weebly, Drupal, and Blogger.

The Lira WordPress Meetup will therefore be a big opportunity for WordPress users in Lira city, and the Lango subregion as a whole.

It will no doubt lead to increased use of WordPress as a website development of choice, improve technical capabilities of local WordPress developers and users, and most importantly lead to increased local digital content creation in Lira and Lango as a whole.

Currently, registration is going online at Meetup Lira and Lira Town College.

Lira WordPress Meetup will convene once each month at Lira Town College Computer Lab, and each time, members will deliberate on one or two topics/issues about the use of WordPress.

Attendance at events will be free, and members will choose from amongst themselves, who will lead each session.
