Thousands attend HWPL Peace Summit in Kampala as network grows

HWPL, like International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG) under the leadership of Chairwoman Hyun Sook Yoon, have held dozens of conferences to promote global peace, and to call on nations to cease wars and embrace dialogues.

Kampala – Sept. 27, 2022: Thousands of peace advocates convened at Makerere University Kampala on Saturday to mark the 8th Anniversary of the September 24th Heavenly Culture, World Peace and Restoration of Light (HWPL) World Alliance of Religions’ Peace (WARP) Summit.

Makerere’s Central Teaching Facility’s Auditorium hosted the well-attended event, WARP held under the theme: “A Foundation for Sustainable Development.”

Thousands of Peace advocates from different parts of the country and HWPL’s officials from Seoul, South Korea, heard, watched and shared peace messages.

HWPL Board Member Chang hee Kim asked political and religious leaders to preach peace in his remarks.

The Officer In-charge of Ahmadiyya Muslim Community Annual Peace Symposia, Sheikh Fayswal Buyonje told the summit that more than ever before, peace is needed; adding that working in isolation, in isolation of other religions is bad for the attainment of peace.

“Religious leaders should avoid paying lip service but they should be walking the talk,” he added.

At the summit, HWPL called on nations across the globe to establish conditions under which justice and respect for the obligation arising from international law can be maintained and under the common spirit that permeates all religious scriptures and the role of the international laws.

Under Declaration of Peace and Cessation of War (DPCW), Article 10: Spreading Culture of Peace, the HWPL urges States to:

  1. Recognize and engage with groups and organizations that seek to further the cause of peace as a global movement;
  2. Recognize that, to preserve a lasting culture of peace, public awareness of the need for, and value of peace should be created;
  3. That heads of state and heads of government should acknowledge that they are uniquely well placed to encourage a culture of peace, and should act to support this declaration to bring about the cessation of war.

In a video message, HWPL’s chairman Man hee Lee further called on nations and world leaders to embrace peace, adding that he has traversed over 31 countries whose leaders have appended their signatures to support the peace movement.
