Gulu – February 6, 2022: The 8th Bishop of the Diocese of Northern Uganda has strongly condemned social media users for insisting on negativity and criticizing support from government to Church leaders.
Bishop Godfrey Loum said this after receiving a brand new vehicle earlier pledged by the president of Uganda last year in December.
“I am getting disappointed with social media users and the press for spreading negative information on the support given by the government,” he said.
“There are Church of Uganda founded schools from where these social media users studied,” Bishop Luom noted.
The Bishop, however, said churches are working together with the government for the good of the people of Uganda. “People of Uganda should not believe in allegations without any proof of information.”
“I am going to use the vehicle to serve the Christians and to help me preach the words of God. We need to repent and ask for forgiveness; sensitize people to work hard in the fights against poverty to the people of Acholi.”
This is the time for me to visit all schools within Acholi, he announced and appealed to the people of Uganda to appreciate the government and its support to churches.
Bishop Joshua Lwere is the General Overseer Pentecostal Evangelism Church of Uganda. He has asked Ugandans to remain as one body and to unite in the fights against corruption.
Gilbert Olanya, MP of Kilak South in Amuru district said the president should fulfill all the promises he pledged to Acholi within the shortest time possible.
Olanya advised the Bishop to use the vehicle to visit all the Churches in Acholi. The MP pledged to mobilize resources for the procurement of bicycles for all the deacons in Amuru.
Simon Wokorach MP Gulu City revealed that the government’s support does not mean they are buying church leaders. “The government is giving back tithe to support the running of churches.”
Wokorach advised Christians to work hard and desist from poverty which he says is hitting the people of Acholi hard.
