Lira authorities also say teachers netted with fake Covid-19 vaccination cards will be charged with attempted murder.
Lira – December 30, 2021: The Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Lira has cautioned anyone planning to travel to Lira City without a facemask to forget because they will not be allowed entry into the City.
RCC Lawrence Egole made this public Thursday during a monthly press briefing. To presser was to leverage strategies meant to curb the rapid spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus within the metropolitan.
Commissioner Egole appealed to the public to start observing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) anew because the omicron variant of coronavirus spreads like wildfire.
“Due to laxity, the rate of Omicron variant within the City has gone so high, this was not the case before Christmas and this is mostly because people from other districts like Kampala came mixing with everyone without taking measures,” he told Journalists.
As schools plan to reopen in the first week of January, Egole said teachers who will be got with fake Covid-19 vaccination cards will face imprisonment for attempted murder.
“By entering classes without getting vaccinated, you are putting lives of students and other teachers at a very high risk and anyone who will be got will be paraded to Court,” Egole vowed.
Parents with children above the age of 18 are advised to ensure they get jabbed before resuming their studies.

On the other hand, Egole’s Deputy Paul Eseru appealed to business owners to ensure they are observing SOPs by putting hand washing facilities and ensuring any customer without a facemask is not served.
“It is your responsibility to protect your customers and this week we shall be moving around to penalize defaulters,” Eseru, also named Omedi by Diocese of Lango Bishop, added.
According to a report presented by the RCC, as of December 29 statistics, 53 people both from Lira City and Lira District tested positive for Omicron variant and three (3) are at the treatment centre while the rest are being monitored under home-based care (HBC).
