Kayunga: Museveni assured of victory, condemns politics of divisionism

In Kayunga, Museveni wondered why leaders were telling him that Kayunga in totality is for NRM yet in the past elections he only to get 35% of the total votes.

Kayunga – 14, December 2021: President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has asked party members to identify the needs of the people in order for him to provide solutions without basing on identity of religion or tribe.

Museveni who is also the chairman of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party said the above Tuesday while campaigning for the Kayunga district LC5 NRM candidate Andrew Muwonge.

The by-election for the Kayunda district chairperson takes place on Thursday. “The NRM government came into power with a difference from UPC, Democratic Party and Kabaka Yekka because it deviated from politics of divisions and condemned any acts of political violence as a result of divisionism.”

The president enumerated several developmental projects that have been implemented by the NRM that include construction of roads, water, schools, health facilities and electricity which have spurred development in Kayunga district.

He assured them that all households in Kayunga will be connected to the national grid after the commissioning of Isimba Hydropower Station.

He blamed the Kayunga district NRM chairman Karangwa and Kayunga Woman Member of Parliament Idah Nantaba, saying they have failed to understand the principle of identifying the people’s needs and have instead continued to squabble over petty issues.

Museveni made it categorically clear that the development going on in Kayunga district is not because of Karangwa or Nantaaba but because of the efforts of the National Resistance Movement which ably identified the needs of the people.

Earlier the Prime Minister, Robinnah Nabbanja who has been in Kayunga since Friday last week told the president that the voters have assured her that they have put aside all their differences and are now going to vote for NRM candidate, Muwonge.

Richard Todwong, the NRM Secretary General also assured president that the party campaign team headed by the Director of Mobilization, Rosemary Sseninde had combed all corners in the district and they are now assured of victory.

NRM candidate Andrew Muwonge who is born in Galiriya sub-county assured the voters that he is the pillar of development in Kayunga having risen thorough party ranks as a youth to get to the LC 5 level of leadership. He promised to prioritize land grabbing solutions to the residents.

During the day, Minister of Lands Judith Nabakooba announced that the government has processed over 1,000 land titles for the residents from the different sub-counties. Over 10 land titles were handed over to the bonafide owners as an assurance that all the rest will get their land titles to reduce on land wrangles.

The Kayunga district LC 5 chairman’s seat is being contested by Andrew Muwonge of NRM, Harriet Nakwedde of National Unity Platform (NUP), Anthony Waddimba of Democratic Party (DP); Bandikubi Boniface, Magidu Nyanzi and Jamil Kamoga who are all independent candidates.
