Widows of Lango clergymen supported with Christmas package

Timothy 5:5: “A widow who is all alone, with no one to take care of her has placed her hope in God and continues to pray and ask him for help night and day.”

Lira – 25, December 2021: A group of widows whose husbands were Servants of Jesus Christ have been remembered with a package each.

The widows who are living under an association received the package from their founder, Rev. Canon Hellen Susan Olwa, wife to Bishop of Diocese of Lango, Rt. Rev. Dr Alfred Olwa.

This happened On December 23 at All Saints University Lango Chaplaincy in Lira City.

Among the items offered to them were kilograms of sugar, soap, tea flasks, among other items.

Middy Omunu, a widow who hails from Apire in Aduku says the support they always receive from Bishop of Lango Diocese and his wife Rev. Canon Hellen has helped them to stay strong.

Mildren Ogweng, widow to the late Rev. Ogweng from Amuca applauded the Bishop and his wife for the support.

“This kind of support has never been given to us by anyone apart from the Bishop and his wife.”

She appealed for more support to take away the sorrows they go through. She urged the clergy widows to be close to God during difficult times.

Rose Nyalo, wife to the late Canon Michael Nyalo from Katangira in Namasale sub-county requested more support, comfort to the widows.

She urged fellows to stop living reckless life but to always listen to God’s words for guidance, standing on the truth.

“We are requesting for more of this gathering because it makes us feel loved and makes us have strong heart.”

Another widow, Janet Ogwal said her husband who was an Archdeacon died in 2010. When this happened, she feared staying with others. “But when this gathering started last year, I became strong because when we meet among themselves we share different testimonies.”

Okwir urged widows in Lango to be hardworking, support children in school and also endeavour to see that their homes are strong and not a headache to people.

“The purpose of gathering clergy widows is to bring them together, share testimonies with each other, pray with them and give them support,” said Rev. Canon Susan Olwa.

She narrated that when Rt. Rev. Prof Alfred Olwa was consecrated to replace Bishop Emeritus Rt. Rev. John Charles Odur Karmi, he promised to take care of everyone.

In 2018 when they realized 30 clergymen had passed on, she said they had to look for their wives to support them every December. “That was the responsibility Rev. Canon. Capt. Helen Susan Olwa was given,” she said.

There are now 33 widows of clergymen all of whom came together recently and consumed words of the God from Timothy 5:5 (a widow who is all alone, with no one to take care of her has placed her hope in God and continues to pray and ask him for help night and day).

Other widows who received the package were Rose OgwaI, wife to the late Rev. Edward Ogwal, Oyam district, Constant Okodi wife to the late Bishop Okodi from Boroboro; Sarah Ongom Dokolo wife to the late Rev. Ongom Dokolo, Ketty Ocero Tom, wife to the late Rev. Tom Ocero in Abutadi and Beatrice Odur Elit, wife to the late Bishop Odur Elit, among others.
