Bishop Charles Andaku reassures Christians amid worsening protestant church leadership crisis

AdjumaniChristians in Adjumani district have been urged to remain calm, prayerful, and steadfast in their faith despite growing concern over the temporary termination of leadership at Biyaya Protestant Church.

The church is under the Church of God. The situation that has left many believers uncertain for more than a month.

For weeks, the church has remained without its normal leadership following administrative action that temporarily removed those in charge, prompting anxiety among members of the congregation and the wider Christian community.

Many faithful have expressed concern about the future of the church, with some fearing that the prolonged leadership vacuum could affect worship, fellowship, and other church activities.

“We are not happy because for months now we have nowhere to go and fellowship, worship and even other church activities. Up to now, the Bishop has kept quiet over the issue,” said one of the Christian members.

However, the Bishop of Madi West Nile Diocese, Rt. Rev. Charles Andaku Collins, has reassured Christians that the church itself remains alive because it is founded on believers in Jesus Christ rather than on buildings or individual leaders.

Addressing the matter, the Bishop emphasised that what has been temporarily halted is only the church leadership and not the existence of the church itself.

“The church is not closed. The church by definition is a group of believers who accept Christ as Lord and Saviour, and therefore, what you see on the ground as closed is only the leadership but will be replaced as soon as possible. There will be peace.”

The Bishop’s remarks are expected to offer reassurance to Christians who have spent weeks wondering when normal leadership will be restored.

His message underscored that leadership transitions, although difficult, should not be interpreted as the end of the church’s mission or the faith of its members.

He reminded Christians that throughout history, the church has faced many trials and challenges but has continued to grow stronger through faith, perseverance, and trust in God.

The Bishop further encouraged believers not to allow the current circumstances to weaken their commitment to worship or their confidence in God’s plan.

“The Christian community, I want to say this: right from the inception of Christianity, the church has gone through tough times. Even our Lord Jesus Christ, when he was on this earth, he went through difficult times.”

The Bishop noted that the challenges facing Biyaya Protestant Church should therefore not come as a surprise to believers. Instead, he encouraged them to see the current situation as a season that will eventually pass, just as previous challenges faced by the church throughout history have been overcome.

He further appealed to Christians to replace fear and anxiety with prayer and thanksgiving, drawing inspiration from the teachings of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:6.

With the Bishop expressing confidence that peace will prevail and leadership will be restored, many believers are now looking forward to a new chapter for Biyaya Protestant Church, one that they hope will strengthen both the congregation and its witness in the community.
