Parliament to investigate UMEME over numerous allegations

Over the years, there has been many allegations against it, including harassment by its officers on duty.

Kampala—30, November 2021: The Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among has directed that UMEME be investigated on many allegations.

UMEME is Uganda’s main electricity distribution company on a 20 year electricity distribution concession with the government of Uganda.

Over the years, there has been many allegations against it, including harassment by its officers on duty.

In May this year, President Museveni issued a directive against UMEME in what sounded like eliminating the leading power distribution company from the market. His statement led to a drop in shares.

With government yet to agree to renew the concession, UMEME faces another scrutiny from Uganda’s Parliament.
