Jinja: AMYU in partnership with Muslim Aid USA extend Covid relief to vulnerable households

Jinja—25, November 2021: It was all smiles among the vulnerable elders and widows in Jinja City where the leadership of Allied Muslim Youth Uganda (AMYU) donated an assortment of items to over 150 households in Walukuba and Mpumudde parishes.

Mpumudde and Walukuba are homes to hundreds of families of people who fled the King-led Northern Insurgency as well as former workers in industries that have either been sold or metamorphosed to modern technologies.

The package included food items like cooking oil, rice, sugar and posho plus personal protective equipment like laundry/bar soap, face masks and bottles of hand sanitizers.

The donations are aimed at alleviating the challenges faced by the underprivileged members of the community.

According to Nuwagaba Mushin Kaduyu, executive director AMYU, the support is part of their humanitarian assistance to the vulnerable people in communities most hit by the lockdowns put in place to avert the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

“… it’s our joy to see smiles on the faces of these people who were almost losing hope because of their pathetic conditions since most of them have no relatives to care for them…” Kaduyo said.

Kaduyo revealed plans are underway in collaboration with Muslim Aid USA (MAUSA) to extend similar relief assistance to people in other parts of the country where there are many challenges.

He said the two sister NGOs have in the past years given support to people in Kampala, Wakiso, Mpigi and Mukono, adding, “The needs are many but at times the available resources are not adequate.”

The beneficiaries who were mostly elderly and sickly women lauded AMYU and MAUSA for the practical gesture, saying for a long they have never benefited from any such help.
