Jane Oling: EU honors Uganda’s distinguished human rights defender

In December 2020, Jane Frances Oling was among three other human rights defenders in Uganda recognized for the same efforts.

Oyam – 7, May 2021: Jane Frances Oling has been honored for her selfless efforts in defending the rights of underprivileged Ugandans, TND News has learnt.

A born of Oyam South, Oyam district (Lango sub-region), she has been honored five times, including President Museveni Yoweri’s recognition last year.

She tells TND News she got the award and recognition for defending the rights of ordinary Ugandans two days ago.

The European Union, The International Human Rights Defenders’ Forum based in the U.S, UK and the government of France jointly recognized her.

Asked if she was expecting this milestone, she responded: “I wasn’t.”

“I have won a trip to France with my two family members having been voted the most influential female human rights defender in the country and the most devoted in the Northern Region,” Jane further told the publication, Friday.

Her colleague rights’ defender, Ritah Achieo was the first runner up. “I have been given a free holiday in France together with my family members,” cheerfully, she wounded, on phone.

Oling, Eron Kizza, Rose Amongin and another were recognised at Impact Awarding Ceremony 2020 for Human Rights Defenders. The popular hashtag was #ClaimingSpaces.
