Apac—15 October 2020: Mrs Margret Ewany, who’s the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) representative to Apac district council, has said that the government program of Social Assistance Grant for Empowerment—SAGE is only a grant.
She further appealed that besides SAGE, the able-bodied people should continue helping them.
“If government takes time to give the elderly money after some time, and they (PWDs) can’t make money, which is enough money for their own use, we should be supported,” she told TND News’ Daniel Okwir.
Mrs Ewany said people should not think it’s the responsibility of government to give money to the elders.
She continued that moving the ages of the beneficiaries from 65 years to 80 years is not good. “These will see many people dying before the age of 80 years.”
The PWDs councillor appreciated the elderly for having elected her. She is contesting to retain her seat in the next council (general elections).
