Apac—9 October 2020: The District Internal Security Officer (DISO) for Apac Mr Francis Otim has cautioned bar owners in Apac against opening their bars as Uganda celebrates 58th years of independence.
Today (Friday) Uganda makes five decades and eight years of self-rule.
Due to Covid-19 pandemic, and ban on social (public) gatherings, the national celebration is under way at State House Entebbe with a limited number of government officials attending.
Before coronavirus’ strike, Ugandans would happily celebrate the Uhuru, drink all sorts of beers and spirits, including dancing till wee hours.
With coronavirus in place, this year’s celebration will be boring with many people enjoying it from their homes.
Speaking to our Reporter on Thursday in Apac, DISO Otim, who’s also a key member of the Apac Covid-19 task force, cautioned against reckless celebrations.
“My office will distribute security personnel to different places to avoid people from contracting Covid-19. Opening bars, opening of drinking joints will not be allowed,” he told the publication.
