Uganda gov’t confirms 2 new Covid-19 deaths, tally reaches 9

Kampala—August 10, 2020: Two people have died of Covid-19 in Uganda, the Ministry of Health has confirmed on Monday.

This brings the total deaths confirmed for the country to nine.

“The two fatalities are: A 27-year-old male from Kywangwali Refugee Settlement in Hoima district who had died at Hoima Regional Referral Hospital and a 46-year-old male resident of Kampala who died at Nsambya Hospital. They both had signs and symptoms consistent with Covid-19. Results from the laboratories confirmed SARS-COV-2,” a statement from the Ministry of Health partly reads.

The same Ministry also confirmed 14 new cases from samples tested on Sunday. Nine are contacts to previously confirmed cases from Kampala Metropolitan Area, three are alerts and two are truck drivers.

Two Ugandan truckers were among new cases. Total cumulative cases confirmed to date stands at 1,297.

Five foreign truckers tested positive at points of entry and were banned from entering Uganda.

Also, 1,421 samples from alerts and contacts were tested on Sunday, and a cumulative total of 2, 435 samples tested.

Since March this year, 299,036 cumulative Covid-19 samples have been tested.
