Uganda has cut virus’ total cases from 274 to 145 on Wednesday. This decision, according to the Ministry of Health, was in compliance with President Yoweri Museveni who had ordered that confirmed cases of foreign truck drivers previously counted as “Uganda’s” be allotted to the tally of their respective countries of origin.
“Following a presidential directive of deducting all foreign truck drivers from Uganda’s case count, the confirmed COVID-19 cases now stand at 145,” Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.
On Thursday night, the Ministry confirmed 15 new cases, bringing the total confirmed cases after discount to 160.
Of the total confirmed cases for Thursday, 10 new cases are truck drivers who arrived via Elegu Point of Entry while 5 cases are among community samples.
“All community cases were under quarantine at the time of test,” Ministry added in a statement.
The statement further says 21 foreign truck drivers were handed over to their countries of origin
To date, a total of 145 foreign truck drivers have been handed over to their country of origin since Presidential directive became effective.
Meanwhile, 2,101 samples of truck drivers were tested on Thursday, and 628 community samples were also tested for the virus.
2,729 total samples were tested for the day.
Uganda has 66 COVID-19 recoveries with zero death.
