Locusts invade Otuke and Alebtong districts


There is confirmed presence of desert locust in Otuke district.

The Resident District Commissioner, Robert Abak says the locusts, estimated to be in millions “haven’t destroyed any vegetation and looks settled to lay eggs”.

According to Mr Abak, there is a huge presence of locusts in Atirayon parish in Ogwete sub-county.

He says intervention were ongoing by a team of pump sprayers to contain the locusts, adding that “a helicopter is on its way, it is soon landing and it will boost aerial spraying,” he said Monday on morning.

On Sunday, report indicates locusts had also attacked Alebtong district. Daniel Obal, the Ajuri County MP aspirant, Daniel Obal told this digital publication he was informed by locals of locusts’ attack.

Locusts were also cited last week in Alito, Kole district.
