NWOYA – Residents of Agonga ‘A’ village, Hima parish, Koch Goma sub-county in Nwoya district are in total panic as environment around them is being poisoned.
The locals fear that anytime they will be attacked by deadly diseases as Zong-Mei, a Chinese Engineering construction company disposes contaminated substance near water source that the entire community members depend on.
Kidega Walter, a resident of Agonga ‘A’ Village expressed his fears, adding that something must be done soon.
“This company has illegally been pouring the sewage products from their plant in the area. Until last Wednesday when we caught them pouring the waste around the water source, we have been speculating. We use that water for domestic purposes,” he said.
He added that about 150 households using the contaminated water source are appealing for immediate response from leaders and the company to avoid disease outbreak.
Okello Patrick Oryema, the Nwoya district LC5 chairperson condemned the development while taking to TND News Uganda.
Addressing the affected residents on Saturday, Mr Okello directed the company forthwith provide safe source of water for his people.
Numerous attempts to get comments from the company’s safety officer were futile by press time as she failed to pick our many phone calls.
However, on Monday morning, one of the officials from the accused company told this news website: “No no no…… it’s not true. You report what you want to report.”
He added: “Even I don’t know what they want.”
