Lira Top Senior Accountants Arrested For Causing Financial Loss

The Lira district Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Geoffrey Ebonga and senior accountant Odora Boniface Olwa are in trouble for alleged financial loss.

Ebonga was arrested on Monday afternoon from the office of Lira Resident District Commissioner Robert Abak, where he had taken an official document in connection to the disappearance of shs314m.

Uganda’s deputy police spokesperson Patrick Onyango told TND News that Patrick Ebonga was arrested to help police with investigation into the missing funds.

“As you know the other man (Boniface Odora Olwa) was arrested over the weekend and things are starting to implicate Ebonga and that is why we have picked him up to aid our investigation. If he happens not to be guilty, then we shall set him free,” Onyango added.

The arrest of Ebonga brings the number of Lira District senior officials in connection with the loss of huge tax payer’s money to two.

On Saturday, police apprehended Boniface Odora Olwa, another senior accountant and locked him up at Lira Central Police Station. Odora was arrested from Glosglow Pub in Lira town from where he was enjoying good times with his friends.

Onyango explained that the two officials have vital information regarding the missing money that was meant to finance several activities in the Lira district.

The Lira acting District Police Commander Moses Akena also told and TND News desk that they have opened a general inquiry file No: 16/2018 over the matter.

“We have submitted the file to the Resident State Attorney for legal advice on charge that should be preferred against the suspects,” Lira acting DPC said.

The disappearance of the said funds came to light following the internal audit showing that the money was unaccounted for.

Odora was in charge of Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS).
