He has a spirit of attacking everyone – pastor Robert Kayanja responds strongly to Frank Gashumba over attacks on leaders

Pastor Robert Kayanja has strongly criticised media personality Frank Gashumba over what he described as a pattern of mocking and attacking prominent leaders in Uganda, including the Katikkiro of Buganda and President Yoweri Museveni.

In his remarks, Kayanja expressed concern about what he called a growing spirit of mockery in the country.

He argued that public discussions should be conducted with respect, particularly when addressing people holding important cultural and national positions.

“There’s a spirit of mocking in Uganda. This man, Frank Gashumba, attacks everyone. He attacks the Katikkiro of Buganda, and before that, he was insulting the President. But ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!” Kayanja said.

The pastor’s comments specifically mentioned Gashumba’s remarks about the Katikkiro, the prime minister of the Buganda Kingdom, as well as his previous criticism of the President.

Kayanja’s response suggests that he believes such statements cross a line in public debate.

Gashumba is known for making outspoken comments on political, social and cultural issues in Uganda. His statements frequently attract public attention and discussion, with reactions often differing depending on the subject and the people involved.

Kayanja’s response has brought renewed attention to the debate over the limits of public criticism and the responsibility of influential figures when speaking about national leaders and cultural institutions.

The disagreement also highlights how strongly expressed opinions can generate controversy in Uganda’s public sphere.

However, criticism of public officials and cultural leaders is also part of public debate, and the distinction between legitimate criticism, personal insults and mockery often becomes a point of disagreement.

The substance and context of the specific remarks remain important when assessing such disputes.

Kayanja’s strong words add another voice to the ongoing discussion about respect, accountability and freedom of expression in Uganda.

Further responses from Gashumba or other figures involved could provide additional context to the disagreement.
