The Embassy of Japan in Uganda on May 5 reinforced its longstanding partnership with the Uganda Police Force (UPF).
A statement by the Force says the donation of seven modern fire trucks was under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).
The fleet was officially handed over by the Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, Takuya Sasayama, to IGP Abas Byakagaba and was witnessed by top government officials from the Ministry of Health led by Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero.
The handover ceremony was held at the Ministry of Health Headquarters in Wandegeya, Kampala.
IGP Abas emphasised that the addition of these fire trucks will significantly strengthen the operational capacity of the Police’s Fire Prevention and Rescue Services, particularly in the districts of Tororo, Mpigi, Kiryandongo, Lira, Bundibugyo, Iganga, and Luwero.
He noted that this enhancement will improve emergency response times and bolster efforts to safeguard lives and property.
“This continued support is a clear demonstration that Japan remains a committed partner in Uganda’s pursuit of safety and human security,” the IGP remarked.
He further extended his profound gratitude to the Government of Japan and the Embassy of Japan for their unwavering support to the Uganda Police Force.
The government of Japan also donated 23 ambulances I was honored to receive 23 ambulances. Dr Aceng said the ambulances will be deployed in Buikwe, Masindi, Pallisa, Oyam, Apac, Bushenyi, Kabale, Nebbi, Ibanda, and Hoima City
For years, the UPF has benefited from a series of contributions under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) initiative.
Notably, these include four fire trucks, one rescue truck, and one command vehicle in 2020.
Five fire trucks and one ambulance were also donated in March 2025, in addition to ongoing capacity-building support.
