The Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Pallisa district, Alex Felix Majeme, has directed all government civil servants to maintain a smart dress code while on duty.
The move is part of efforts to improve professionalism and boost public confidence in government offices.
The directive was issued on Monday, March 9, 2026, by CAO Majeme during his weekly press briefing. Addressing heads of departments, he instructed them to ensure the new guidelines are implemented across all district offices.
Majeme noted that the practice has already been adopted at the district headquarters, making it significantly easier for the public to identify government officials.
“When I first came to Pallisa, it was difficult to differentiate between a civil servant and an ordinary person who had come to the district offices unless someone introduced themselves,” he said.
“Now it has become easier, and I want this standard to extend to the sub-counties, schools, and health facilities.”
The CAO emphasised that a professional appearance is crucial, as it influences how the public and learners perceive government workers.
“When a learner sees an accountant, teacher, or any officer dressed smartly, they may aspire to be like them. That is positive emulation,” he added.
Majeme also warned that he would not tolerate untidy appearances from staff attending official meetings or visiting his office.
“To be honest, I will not entertain a civil servant who comes to my office looking untidy. Most of them are now aware of the directive, and the response at the district headquarters is already 100 per cent,” he said.
Pallisa District Education Officer Ronald Omutujju confirmed that head teachers have already responded positively and are expected to ensure teachers maintain a smart appearance.
