Amolatar district inaugurated new youth council leaders on Thursday, March 12, 2026, bringing to an end the five-year tenure of the previous leaders.
Following the recent youth council elections, Oguta Ambrose Bob emerged victorious as chairperson of the district youth council.
During the handover at the district headquarters, former chairperson Tonny Odongo cited some challenges and called on the incoming chairperson to work hard and address them.
Among the challenges he cited were reluctance among the youth to refund the YLP money, political affiliation differences and bias in the selection of candidates to join the presidential skilling hub in Lira City.
New chairperson Oguta promised to work hand in hand with all youth regardless of political affiliations and differences.
He later called upon the entire youth to work hard so they can be self-reliant while also promising to step up and lobby for development programs for the youth.
Patrick Otile, the Deputy CDO of Amolatar who officiated the handover ceremony, cautioned the youth against politicising youth leadership and challenged the new leaders to lobby for youth-attached projects.
Commenting on the challenges facing the youth council, Otile said out of shs1.5b disbursed to the youth, only about shs200m have been refunded showing a red flag to the new chairperson.
Ephania Ocero, one of the youth, showed concern about some PDM SACCO leaders who deny youth access to the money.
He appealed that they should at least be made to access the PDM money.
