Extremely parasitic! Weekly, Dokolo records 2,000 malaria cases

Over 2000 malaria cases are registered in Dokolo district per week, Assistant District Health Officer (ADHO) Eugine Odongo reveals.

“This is threatening the district,” he added.

Speaking during the orientation training of the Sub-county Taskforce Committee on mosquito net distribution held at the District Council Hall on Friday afternoon, the ADHO stated that over 2,000 malaria cases per week at government health facilities are negatively impacting the district.

Odongo said they have trained sub-county taskforce committees that will help in dthe distributionof mosquito nets to the responsible beneficiaries. He appealed to beneficiaries to use it responsibly to protect them from malaria infection.

He said the district has received a total of 2,521 bales of mosquito nets that will be given to people of Dokolo district to fight malaria burdens.

On Saturday, January 3, he stated that the sub-county taskforce committee will train VHTs, LC1 chairpersons and store management teams, and disbursement will be on Tuesday, January 6, at all the villages across the district.

Denise Orit, the Principal Assistant Chief Administrative Officer of Dokolo , speaking on behalf of CAO, Granfil Oryondo Omonda , called for transparency and accountability for net distributors.

He urged them to desist from faking data, which may bring disservice to the local community.

Babra Akech, the Resident District Commissioner of Dokolo, warned net distributors to desist from corruption-related matters which may affect the exercise.

Akech highlighted that the government has put all the interventions through establishment of health facilities, use of indoor spraying programs, and disbursement of mosquito nets in order to fight against malaria burdens in the country.

In 2023, records from the District Health Department (biostatistician) indicated that extreme high malaria cases were registered in the district within a space of 17 weeks.

The data also showed that from January to March 2023, the district registered 27,899 cases of malaria across the Outpatient Departments (OPDs) with 4% of them being severe cases.
