Why the ministry of health will recruit 144 CHEWs in Dokolo

Dr. Aceng

The Ministry of Health is set to recruit 144 Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs) in the Dokolo district to enhance the delivery of health services.

Speaking during the district orientation meeting organised by the Ministry of Health at Dokolo council hall, Dr Meddy Rutagisire from the ministry said they will recruit 144 CHEWs across 72 parishes in the district.

These health workers, he said, will help in the enhancement of service delivery in the community.

Dr Rutagisire noted that eligible candidates must have a UCE qualification. He revealed that the training will take six (6) months. He noted that CHEWs will be selected among the Village Health Teams (VHTs), and they will be selected by the community members.

He further highlighted that eligible candidates will be provided with all necessary equipment, such as a bicycle, a smartphone, and gum boots, among others.

Dr Robert Iriso, the Deputy Chief of Party for Uganda Health Activities, revealed that the recruits will bridge the gap between the health workers, village health teams (VHTs) and the community, respectively.

Dr Samuel Ojok, the District Health Officer for Dokol,o noted that recruiting community health extension workers will greatly improve healthservices delivery among local communities.

He further cautioned people to avoid putting politics in the recruitment processes.

Joel Opota Okuma, speaker of the district council and Joan Bua, secretary for works and technical services, welcomed the projects and pledged total commitment and support towards the programs.

The Assistant Resident District Commissioner, Dokolo Isaac Oceng Otim, cautioned the responsible recruitment officers to desist from extortion and corruption-related matters during the exercise.

He appealed to the district health department to select the rightful and qualified candidates for the effective implementation of the project.
