Lira tycoons join hands in campaigning for Minister Dr Aceng

The business community in Lira City has come as one to campaign for the re-election of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero.

Dr Acen is the incubment Lira City Woman Member of Parliament, and NRM chairperson for Lira City.

Addressing a campaign rally for Dr. Aceng in Bazzar Cell, Obia Ward, Lira City East Division, on Monday, December 9, 2024, tycoon Dr Patrick Olet, Managing Director of Gracious Palace Hotel and Gracious Schools Lira, praised the minister as a beacon for the people.

“Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero is the light for the people of Lira City and beyond because of her impactful work,” Olet stated.

The city tycoon also advocated for support for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the upcoming general election. “I want to make this statement very clear: we have already won this election. I call upon the entire city’s voters to start celebrating,” he declared.

Morris Chris Ongom, Director of the Chamber of Commerce and Industries for the Lango sub-region, urged NRM members and supporters to elect a leader capable of elevating the city.

“I am saying this because when Dr Jane challenges her opponent in the upcoming general election, Lira City will shine at a higher level,” Ongom said.

He emphasised continued support for Dr Aceng due to her compelling manifesto and track record. “Minister Aceng’s achievements over the past four years are evident. That’s the kind of leader we the people of Lango want,” he added.

Another prominent business figure, Godfrey Ojore, Managing Director of Hotel Good News Lira City, appealed to voters for a unified outcome.

“On January 15, 2026, all lines should be straight and direct to the Commander-in-Chief, General Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, followed by Dr Jane Ruth Aceng Ocero. Other NRM candidates will follow, but the mainstream are the President and Dr Jane for Lira City Woman MP,” Ojore outlined.

In her campaign  address, Dr Aceng thanked President Museveni for bringing sustained peace to the country. She called on everyone to appreciate him by advocating for his re-election.

Highlighting her manifesto for 2026-2031, Dr Aceng, leveraging her medical background, promised to prioritize health lobbying. “I will continue to lobby the government, especially on health matters, so that people’s lives remain paramount.

“That is why the government has brought drugs and placed them in facilities across the country, to ensure life continues moving well,” she stated.

The minister added that, despite analysis showing Northern Uganda as a region with many poor households, she is committed to supporting various SACCO groups to lift people out of poverty.

Dr Aceng requested that Lira City voters support only NRM candidates to ensure seamless coordination for government lobbying.

“In the last election, both the City East and City West Division MPs did nothing. For that matter, I am calling everyone to join hands together if we want Lira City to shine among the top cities across the country,” she concluded.
