Lango coordinator for Presidential candidate Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s reelection campaign has hailed the Ugandan leader for peace, security and unity.
Chris Ongom, who was UPC vice chairperson for the Lango sub-region before he was sacked by embattled party leader Jimmy James Michael Akena for publicly supporting Museveni, said Museveni has made Uganda an “island of peace.”
Ongom said Museveni, 81, has also made the East African country a “heaven for the refugees.”
Currently serving as Oyam district vice chairperson LC5 and councillor for Acaba sub-county to the district council, Ongom is leading a 17-member team of UPC and FDC supporters who are pushing for Museveni’s presidential win in January 2026.
He pledges to campaign for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) candidate Museveni for the current peace to prevail.
He announced this commitment to over 100 UPC and FDC flag bearers from Oyam district, stating they had resolved to campaign for NRM flagbearer President Yoweri Museveni in next year’s general elections.
Ongom cited the President’s manifesto for national development, protection of national gains, and the prevailing peace and unity as key reasons.
Addressing the leaders on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at Oyam Annex Guest House, Ongom explained the rationale behind UPC and FDC members campaigning for President Museveni.
Ongom specifically appreciated the NRM government for peace and security, ranking Uganda as the most stable nation in East Africa, arguing that Uganda is by far better than neighbouring countries like South Sudan, Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
He added that with the UPC not having a presidential candidate, and out of the eight nominated candidates, they see only one candidate—President Museveni—with a clear vision to push Uganda forward.
Meanwhile, the vice coordinator, Godfrey Alex Ogwal Adeyo, also the LC5 chairperson of Kwania, stated clearly that the group is rallying to campaign for Museveni to secure more developmental progress for Lango.
This includes demands for tarmac roads, the creation of more districts, and a greater number of ministerial positions for the region.
While reading six resolutions from the meeting, Adeyo listed their agreements: Firstly, to campaign exclusively for President Museveni, not for any other candidates at parliamentary or district levels.
Secondly, the government must officially confirm the creation of Aber district, not merely use it as a campaign tool. Thirdly, the government must protect the lives of people living near parks. Another key resolution was a call for security forces to protect all UPC and FDC candidates and their supporters during the campaign period.
CP Otine, a UPC leader from Aleka sub-county, promised to advocate for more votes for President Museveni, saying he would “leave the space” for UPC President Akena Obote.
He also requested that former FDC party president Col. Dr Kizza Besigye be forgiven and released from prison.
Harriet Adong Okello Obaro, a UPC flag bearer seeking to represent Aleka at the district level, appreciated President Museveni for the upgrade of Oyam Health Centre IV to a district hospital.
Adong, who started voting at age 16, confessed she had never voted for Museveni, having previously supported Kizza Besigye, but vowed to do so in the coming election. She further requested the government to build good schools in Aleka and Otwal, and improve roads.
Oyam Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Shilaku James promised to provide standard security for all candidates during the campaign period. He clarified that his office would not provide private security to individuals but would ensure safety for the entire community.
The RDC attributed the nation’s total peace and security to having a “trusted, tested, positive leader chosen by God.”
