Won Nyaci Yosam Odur Ebii dies at 99

Death has robbed Lango of its senior cultural leader, Yosam Odur Ebii.

Won Nyaci of Lango and leader of Lango Cultural Foundation (LCF) died on Monday, November 10, aged 99.

Ebii passed on from Lira University Teaching Hospital where he was receiving treatment.

His death was confirmed by LCF Premier, Frederick Ogwal Oyee.

The 99-year-old has been in and out of hospitals for the past two or so years – but his condition was termed “not bad”.

On October 31, 2024, Justice Philip Odoki ruled that the legitimate Won Nyaci of Lango was Yosam Odur Ebii.

He also ruled that the elections of Eng. Micheal Odongo Okune and Ogwang Okul as Won Nyaci were illegal, null and void.

Soon, Eng. Odongo, Willie Omodo Omodo, George Ojwang Opota, and others filed an application for a stay of execution.

Among other things, the applicants were dissatisfied with the landmark ruling on October 31, which declared Eng. Odongo’s election as Won Nyaci is “null and void.”

Justice Philip Odoki also issued a permanent injunction prohibiting Eng. Odongo was prevented from carrying out his duties as the Paramount Chief of Lango.

On November 29, Odoki issued a ruling in which the Court awarded costs to the defendants and ruled that the applicants had not satisfied the requirements for a stay of execution.

Subsequently, Eng. Odongo and others appealed the ruling in the Court of Appeal which granted them a stay of execution.

It’s from that appeal that he (Eng. Odongo) has been operating as Won Nyaci of Lango, while the main case awaits final decision.
