When Justice Philip Odoki’s ruling legitimised Yosam Odur Ebii Won Nyaciship

On October 31, 2024, Justice Philip Odoki sitting at Lira High Court ruled that the legitimate Won Nyaci of Lango was Yosam Odur Ebii.

He also ruled that the elections of Eng. Micheal Odongo Okune and Ogwang Okul as Won Nyaci to suceed Ebii were illegal, null and void.

Justice Odoki in the same ruling also issued a permanent injunction prohibiting Eng. Odongo from carrying out his duties as the Paramount Chief of Lango.

Soon, Eng. Odongo, Willie Omodo Omodo, George Ojwang Opota, and others, filed an application for stay of execution.

Among other things, the applicants were dissatisfied with the landmark ruling on October 31, which declared Eng. Odongo’s election as Won Nyaci “null and void.”

On November 29, Odoki issued a ruling in which the Court awarded costs to the defendants and ruled that the applicants had not satisfied the requirements for a stay of execution.

Subsequently, Eng. Odongo and others appealed the ruling in the Court of Appeal which granted them a stay of execution.

It’s from that appeal that he (Eng. Odongo) has been operating as Won Nyaci of Lango, while the main case before the Court of Appeal awaits final decision.
