Locals applaud Jane Acilo’s village-to-village campaign approach

Loro, Oyam South | Residents of Eastern and Western Wards in Loro Town Council, Oyam South have expressed pleasure with the campaign strategy of Jane Frances Acilo, Oyam district woman MP candidate in the forthcoming general election.

On Thursday, November 20, thousands thronged venues in the two Wards to listen to candidate Acilo, who began her campaign from Batholomew Church grounds in Eastern Ward.

“…I have put development and household transformation in Oyam in my plan for five years. I am here to let you know that I am committed to working with you to help you prosper through agriculture,” she told the gathering at Batholomew.

“Through my office, maize farmers will be able to sell their grains from December 2025 at a reasonable price – shs1000 per kilo.

On healthcare, she said: “I have listened to your concerns, and introduced free medical camps in Oyam district. Once you give me the mandate as a woman MP next year, I will be able to do more.

“I want our children to finish their education, come back home and become job creators. Most of our children are graduating and leaving home (Oyam) to seek employment.

“Through your mandate, I will change this perception and retain here to create employment for themselves and others.

Still on education, Acilo pledges to introduce a school feeding program across Oyam, saying learners at lower levels currently do not concentrate and finish their education because of hunger.

On anti-Acilo and development, she said: “This year, let’s first stop the propaganda: that this lady does not know Leb Lango, she doesn’t talk with energy, etc. In Parliament, do MPs talk in Leb Lango?” She asked. “No!” The gathering responded.

On some politicians in the opposition political parties in Oyam urging voters to vote for them and President Museveni, Acilo urged such politicians to focus on their own parties and not confuse the voters.

She added that there is no way such politicians will convince President Museveni to develop Oyam, when for the past many years, that has never happened.

Speaking at Omara Obama’s home in Ayira B Cell, Eastern Ward, Acilo promised to work towards an Oyam district where job seekers from elsewhere come for job opportunities and employment rather than Oyam’s sons and daughters heading out to seek employment.

This, she said, will be achieved through her five-year plan to transform the education system. Additionally, she promised to support graduates to be innovative.

Acilo reminded the gathering that for the last seven months, through various initiatives and interventions, she has demonstrated the qualities and capabilities of a leader that Oyam district needs.

Locals’ campaign approach

Nancy Emmanuel Elem of Eastern Ward desires a leader who can help people once elected. Elem, one of those who made time to listen to Acilo, applauded Acilo’s campaign approach of going down to the villages to share her manifesto.

“Her engagement with the people, how she talks is good. For years, we who are here have been used to hearing that some politicians have campaigned at the sub-county headquarters; today, we are having Acilo here.”

Pamela Oduny of Ayira B Cell, Eastern Ward, says she was attending a rally to listen to a leader who listens to the people and responds to their issues.

Oduny describes Acilo as a leader who listens to the cries of the farmers and negotiates better market prices for their produce.

Obonyo Frances of Adyeda B village, Adyeda parish in Eastern Ward, joined women in applauding Acilo for going to villages to share her manifesto.

He said for the past years, the majority of politicians shun village-to-village campaigns, something Acilo is targeting.

“Today, I have listened to what Imat (Acilo) has said for us the farmers. We buy seeds expensively and sell them at a low price. Now that she has promised us market, we will be happy if she’s elected.”

From Ayira B, Acilo headed to Ogugu village, Western Ward, for another set of rallies.

“Thank you for loving me, for giving me flag. The flag is here with you today. I also would like to inform you that it’s not yet over, let’s join hands and make it through in January 2026,” Acilo said in Ogugu village.

She preached unity among supporters of different political parties, saying: “We can only disagree on ideas but we are one.”

“In the next five years, when you send me to Parliament in January, there is going to be Oyam district hospital,” Acilo promised. “Oyam is one of the biggest districts in Lango.

“If we must develop Oyam, we must be forward-looking leaders, and put our efforts into better education,” she stated. Education, agriculture, women and youth empowerment, employment, including health are Acilo’s top priority sectors for Oyam.

From Ogugu village, candidate Acilo headed to Abolonemo A Cell in Western Ward where hundreds of residents had been waiting for her since 2 pm.

Speaking in Abolonemo, Acilo told residents that “campaigns were not yet done” even when she won massively in the NRM party primary elections in August 2025.

“Once you elect a leader, such a leader should remain with the people,” Acilo said.
