Kenyan businessman shockingly dies in Lira: what we know so far

A Kenyan businessman aged 50 was found dead on Tuesday, November 24, 2025, in his room located in Lira City East Division.

According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Regional Police Public Relations Officer, authorities have launched an investigation into the mysterious death.

SP Okema added on Tuesday that police from Lira City West Division were looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of Jenga Sam.

The deceased, who was a produce dealer, was discovered in his room in Camp Swahili cell, Teobia Ward, Lira City East Division.

Jenga’s death was reported to Lira City East Division police headquarters by Wamari Issa, 37, a fellow Kenyan national who also resides in Camp Swahili cell.

Police records indicate that on November 25, 2025, at around 9:30 am, a report of a sudden death was received.

A team of officers, led by the District Police Commander (DPC) including the Officer-in-Charge of the Station (OC Station), the District Criminal Investigations Officer (DCIO), and a Scenes of Crime Officer (SOCCO), immediately proceeded to the scene.

Upon arrival, SP Okema said they observed the deceased through a window and saw his face lying up with both legs slanting onto the floor.

A black backpack and some clothes were on the bed, various drugs were on a table, and the door was locked from the inside.

SP Okema added that the door was subsequently broken to gain access to the room. Standard investigative procedures were then followed, including photographing the scene and documenting evidence.

Okema further confirmed that most of the deceased’s personal items, including his bag, clothes, mobile phone, and the drugs, were recovered from the room and exhibited at the police station as evidence.

The body of the deceased was then transported to Lira Regional Referral Hospital for a postmortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.

By Tuesday evening, the residence’s manager had yet to issue a formal statement to the police regarding the incident.
