Halleluyah Glory Farmers launches Julita Coffee Works Limited in the North

Northern Uganda has a new project, Julita Coffee Works Limited, under the Halleluyah Glory Farmers Association Uganda. This initiative aims to increase coffee farming in the region.

Its mission is to provide exceptional, sustainable, and innovative coffee farming solutions by empowering communities and delivering exceptional quality across the entire value chain.

Speaking during an engagement meeting with stakeholders at the Apac District Council Hall on Thursday, November 20, 2025, the Assistant RDC of Apac, Jordan Okot, urged farmers to embrace commercial coffee farming by adopting modern agricultural methods, such as the four-acre model.

Okot added that farmers should have love and companionship, avoiding segregation in their work. “Our people can escape poverty using this new project,” he said. “Let us continue planning for value addition in crops and stop that old model of farming for food security only.”

He concluded by requesting the people of Apac to vote for President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, cautioning them not to vote for a candidate who is not a farmer. “Research has shown that most politicians are running for office with the sole mission of getting money,” Okot stated.

Alice Haluyi, the founder of Halleluyah Glory Uganda, told the media that the association previously dealt in beans, maize, soy, and sunflower. However, she explained:

“We have come to realize that all those products were for subsistence, hand-to-mouth farming. For that reason, we want to enter into commercial farming, such as coffee and cocoa projects. That is why Halleluyah Glory has united with Julita Coffee Works Limited in partnership.”

“I want to assure the people of Northern Uganda that we have now signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Apac District. I am therefore calling upon all farmers to embrace commercial coffee farming, similarly to cocoa, so that our farmers can come together and connect for better achievements,” she said.

She promised to secure better markets for the farmers.

During his presentation, the Managing Director of Julita Coffee Works Limited, Michael Julius Tumwebaze, cited that their dream is to utilize all available land in Uganda for farmers to establish commercial coffee farms.

Tumwebaze said the purpose of the engagement meeting was to introduce the Julita Coffee Works commercial coffee growth model. “We already have this project in some districts, but we want to implement it across multiple areas countrywide. We call on all farmers to present viable opportunities for large-scale investment and partnership in modern coffee farming, processing, and export.”

Denis Opio, a coffee farmer from Ogur Town Council in Lira District and a former government official, shared his experience. “I was a sub-county chief for over 10 years, but I decided to resign to concentrate on commercial farming,” Opio said. He added that before joining coffee farming, he focused on maize but did not make much money from it.

“This is a very true testimony: last year in 2024, when I established myself in coffee growing, I earned shs37million. I am not going back to public service because the money I am getting now, I would not get even if I worked for many more years in government.”
