The territorial Police in Oyam district on Tuesday, November 25, said it conducted an intelligence-led operation.
This operation was conducted following credible intelligence tips. The DPC of Oyam, along with his team, proceeded to Ajali Opoo village, Adel parish, Minakulu sub-county, using a motor vehicle with registration number UP 9680.
Intelligence reports indicated that an organised group of criminals had been seen dismantling and changing the number plates of suspected stolen motorcycles at the residence of Ayen Calvine, a resident of the same village.
Upon arrival at the scene at approximately 11:15 pm, the suspected individuals had already fled, suggesting that they had received prior information about the police operation and escaped before police arrival.
A thorough search was conducted within the premises of Ayen Calvine and the surrounding area, in the presence of the LC1 chairperson and neighbours.
The operation led to the recovery of about 40 motorcycle number plates, found buried in a banana plantation, said North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, SP Jimmy Patrick Okema.
He added that one box containing spanners and other tools commonly used in dismantling or breaking was recovered.
Also recovered were three bundles of dried opium and other unspecified items associated with criminal activities.
“A search certificate was duly issued. No arrests have been made at this stage, but efforts to apprehend them are ongoing since some of them are known.
“We appeal to community members to always liaise with security to have these goons arrested and face the law,” SP Okema concluded.
