Drug theft from government health facilities must stop, Museveni orders

President Yoweri Museveni has issued a directive to all Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) to investigate and arrest anyone found stealing drugs from government health facilities.

Museveni, addressing a rally at Dokolo Technical School playground in Dokolo town council on Wednesday, emphasised that those caught must be apprehended and prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

The NRM presidential candidate is in Lango until October 7 for his political campaigns ahead of possible reelection in January 2026.

At Dokolo Technical School, Museveni received a significant show of support as he sought to bolster the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s base.

President Museveni lamented the theft of government drugs, stating it should be everyone’s concern to report such cases, whether the perpetrators are health workers or any other individuals.

Museveni “Therefore, I will start working with servants of God in helping me arrest all these drug thieves,” he said. He expressed strong confidence, adding, “I know God’s workers will not disappoint me in fighting this matter. How could you steal medicines that are sent to serve the entire country?”

Reiterating his command to the RDCs, the President said, “My RDCs, please react where there is an issue of drug stealing and follow that suspect with the law and order of this country.”

Shifting to his campaign message, Museveni highlighted the NRM government’s achievements over its more than 40 years in power. He cited the expansion of telecommunications, noting that at the start of the NRM era, only 23,000 people had mobile phones, compared to 28 million Ugandan phone users today.

In education, he stated that while there were only six senior A-level schools in 1961, the country now boasts a significantly increased number.

The first day of President Museveni’s campaign concluded successfully in the districts of Amolatar and Dokolo. The campaign trail continues on Thursday, October 2, with a scheduled rally at Alebtong Boma Ground in Alebtong Town Council, before he proceeds to Otuke.

The President was accompanied by a delegation of senior officials, including the Speaker of Parliament, Annet Among; the Regional Vice Chairperson for Northern Uganda, Denis Hamson Obua; NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong; and Senior Mobilizer Emmanuel Dumbo, among other MPs and NRM secretariat members.

During the event, Speaker of Parliament Annet Among urged the voters of Dokolo to actively support President Yoweri Museveni, whom she described as the true father of the nation who cares for his children.
