Excitement is high in Agago West Constituency following the primary election victory of Ricky Richard Anywar – the incumbent MP.
Agago NRM district registrar Steven Omara announced the results, stating that the primary election was free and fair. He thanked all participating candidates for their humility after defeat.
Registrar Omara confirmed that Anywar polled 12,205 votes (61.5%), defeating Jimmy Akasa who got 4,785 votes, and James Penywii with 2,832 votes.
Speaking to journalists after his declaration, the MP attributed his victory to his track record over the past five years since entering Parliament in 2021.
He stated the winning percentage reflects voters’ recognition of his work and called for unity, peace, togetherness, and love ahead of the general elections, urging his opponents to unite behind him.
“I humbly seek your mandate again in the upcoming 2026 elections. Let us continue this journey of transformation together. With your support, we can complete the work we’ve started and ensure no one in Agago West is left behind,” he stated.
Highlighting his education initiatives, Anywar cited supporting the construction and renovation of classrooms, providing desks to underserved schools, lobbying for teacher recruitment, and facilitating bursaries and scholarships for needy but bright secondary and tertiary students.
His development record, he said, also includes repairing and rehabilitating over 300 boreholes to improve community water access and sanitation.
Looking forward, the MP will focus on bridging gaps with opponents, welcoming former critics, and fostering teamwork to achieve peace and unity within the community.
His additional efforts include supporting agricultural productivity by lobbying for tractors for the community, and strengthening local leadership through capacity-building training focused on economic development and peacebuilding.
Under his leadership, health centers saw improved medical supplies and staffing through advocacy for more health workers and community outreaches.
He also empowered youth and women by facilitating access to government programs like the Parish Development Model, Youth Livelihood Programme (YLP), and Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP).
