Sports officers from Acholi and Lango sub-regions under their umbrella Acholi and Lango Sports Officers Association (ALSOA) met in Lira City recently.
The meeting was held to discuss among other things the development of sports in northern Uganda.
The officers met on March 5 in the Lira City Council boardroom where they shared their experiences and best practices in sports management.
They also discussed the challenges of sports development in their respective districts, as well as ways to collaborate and support one another in promoting sports.
Sports officers from the districts and cities of Lira, Gulu, Pader, Alebtong, Otuke, and Lamwo were in attendance.

According to Mathew Can-Amita, chairperson of ALSOA, the meeting also allowed for discussions about their welfare and how they can register and collaborate with other federations.
The sports officers have updated their constitution in an effort to enhance their operations and better serve the sports community, Can-Amita said.
The updated constitution is intended to be used as a working tool, providing a clear framework for officers to carry out their responsibilities.
Furthermore, he stated that the constitution defines the roles and responsibilities of sports officers, as well as the procedures for decision-making and dispute resolution.
It also provides clear guidelines for managing sports programs and events.
The sports officers believe that the revised constitution will allow them to work more efficiently and effectively, thereby benefiting the sports community they serve.
Moses Aluku, Oyam district sports officer, urged fellow officers to build strong relationships with technical officers and political leaders in order to promote effective collaboration and coordination in the sports sector.
Building strong relationships with technical officers, Aluku noted, will allow officers to stay up to date on the latest developments in their respective sports disciplines, while political leaders will assist sports officers in securing funding and support for sports programs.
Eron Alal, Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Regional Football Association (NRFA), attended the meeting and provided comprehensive guides to sports officers on how to effectively collaborate with FUFA.
Alal explained sports officers’ roles and responsibilities in relation to FUFA, as well as the communication, collaboration, and conflict resolution procedures.
The guidelines cover key areas such as: registration and affiliation with football clubs and teams, organization of football tournaments and competitions; development of football infrastructure and facilities.
He also mentioned promotion of football development programmes and initiatives.
Dan Fred Ogole, Lira City’s sports officer, and other officers expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the government for the Akii Bua Stadium construction.
Ogole described Akii Bua Stadium as a symbol of the regime’s commitment to promoting sports development.
