Wisdom High School in Kole, a relatively young institution in northern Uganda, has emerged as a top performer in the 2024 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), the results of which were released on Friday, March 14.
After just over seven years of operation, the school has surpassed many older and more established institutions in the area, solidifying its position as a leader in high-quality education in the Lango Sub-region.
Janet Museveni, Minister of Education and Sports, officially released the 2024 UACE results on Friday at State House Nakasero. The results showed significant improvements across the country, including a notable increase in candidacy.
A total of 141,996 candidates registered for the 2024 exams, representing a 28.4% increase from 110,566 in 2023. Of these, 61,957 (43.6%) were females and 80,039 (56.4%) were males. Key subjects such as Economics, English Literature, Physics, and Biology showed particularly promising results.

“This is not our first time excelling in both UCE and UACE results. This is our sixth sitting, and we are proud to have consistently delivered excellent performance. I want to appeal to parents to avoid taking their children to bigger schools in Kampala. At the moment, we have brought Kampala schools here to the Lango sub-region,” Ogwal said.
Wisdom High School Kole was not the only institution to celebrate success in the 2024 UACE results.
St. Gracious Secondary School in Lira City also performed exceptionally well, with one candidate scoring 20 points, 12 candidates scoring 19 points, and 13 candidates scoring 18 points, among other achievements.
The school registered a total of 271 candidates for the exams.
Ojok Martin, a representative of St. Gracious Secondary School, praised the performance, stating, “This is a very good performance, and in the Lango Sub-region, we are number one. I would like to thank both the candidates and parents, including the teachers and the director, Dr. Patrick Olet, for lifting up Lango in the education system.”
King James Comprehensive Secondary School, another private school in Lira City, also made significant strides. The school, which was ranked 14th in the 2023 results, rose to third place in the Lango sub-region for the 2024 exams.
Out of 164 candidates, one student, Akello Brenda Rose, scored 19 points, while seven candidates scored 18 points, and 32 scored 17 points. The school’s Director of Studies, Jasper Okabo, expressed confidence in challenging Wisdom High School Kole for the top spot in the 2025 results.
Government-aided schools and vocational institutions also showcased impressive performances. Light Vocational Secondary School in Lira City celebrated an 88% university qualification rate, with 294 out of 400 candidates passing with three principal passes and 89 with two principal passes.
The school’s head teacher, Fred Jalameso, expressed his joy at the results and encouraged parents to continue supporting their children’s education.
Similarly, Lira Town College, one of the oldest government-aided schools in the region, registered 250 candidates, with 172 males and 78 females.
The school’s head teacher, Levi Abongo, noted significant improvements in science subjects and urged parents to ensure their children return to school on time to maintain the momentum.
The 2024 UACE results have not only highlighted the academic potential of students in northern Uganda but have also underscored the importance of community support, dedicated teaching staff, and visionary leadership in transforming education.
As schools like Wisdom High School Kole continue to raise the bar, the future of education in the region looks brighter than ever.
For now, the spotlight remains on Wisdom High School Kole and its remarkable journey from a young institution to a regional academic powerhouse.
“We have brought Kampala schools here to the Lango sub-region,” Wisdom’s Ogwal said.
Indeed, Ogwal’s school has demonstrated that excellence has no bounds, and with continued effort, the sky’s the limit for its students and the entire region.
