UWA gets new Executive Director

Kampala | The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has announced the appointment of Dr. James Musinguzi as Executive Director, effective April 1, 2025.

The revelation was made in a statement issued on February 6, 2025.

His appointment follows the retirement of Sam Mwandha, who has held the position since 2018 and will officially leave on March 31, 2025.

Dr. Musinguzi has vast experience in wildlife conservation, management, and community engagement.

He previously worked as Executive Director of the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC), where he promoted conservation awareness, wildlife rescue, and public engagement.

Following the merger of UWEC and UWA, he was appointed Director of Community Conservation and Ex Situ Wildlife Services in October 2024, where he played a critical role in advancing conservation efforts throughout Uganda.

UWA acknowledges the outgoing Executive Director’s outstanding leadership, which has improved wildlife protection, strengthened community conservation efforts, expanded anti-poaching initiatives, and increased Uganda’s protected area tourism potential over the last seven years.

His tenure has had an indelible impact on the country’s conservation landscape.

As Dr. Musinguzi takes over leadership of UWA, the authority expresses confidence in his ability to guide Uganda’s conservation efforts forward.

His leadership is expected to build on previous successes by strengthening conservation programs, promoting sustainable wildlife management, and increasing community involvement in protecting Uganda’s natural heritage.

In the same statement, UWA expresses gratitude to Mr. Mwandha for his dedicated service and welcomes Dr. Musinguzi to his new position.
