Lira City | The Paramount Chief of Lango, Yosam Odur Ebii on Saturday officially opened the Lango Cultural Foundation offices in Lira City.
Local leaders, cultural advocates, and community members gathered for the ceremony marking the historic achievement under Ebii leadership.
The newly fancy offices – all within a single building, are located in Senior quarters of Lira City East Division. The offices are intended to serve as a hub for cultural activities, research, and the documentation of Lango traditions, language, and history.
During the opening ceremony, Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii emphasized the importance of preserving Lango culture for future generations.

“Our culture is our identity. It defines us as Lango people. This foundation will strive diligently to ensure that our traditions, values, and heritage are not only preserved but also celebrated and transmitted to the younger generation,” he stated.
Local leaders and community members expressed their support for this development and recognized its significance at a time when many indigenous cultures are at risk of extinction due to globalization and modernization.
“This is a commendable step forward. Our culture is rich and diverse, and it is our duty to safeguard it. I applaud Paramount Chief Yosam Odur Ebii for his visionary leadership,” remarked a local leader.
Additionally, Mzee Yosam urged the people of Lango to vote for the NRM government led by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in the upcoming elections.
He advised voters to vote for candidates who have clear visions and strong agendas, rather than those who have made no positive contributions to the Lango community.
Fredrick Ogwal Oyee, Prime Minister of Lango Cultural Foundation and a prominent leader of the Inono clan, expressed gratitude to the Lango Paramount Chief for his outstanding leadership in facilitating recent progress.
The Premier emphasized the importance of education, urging clan leaders to prioritize children’s educational needs, recognizing it as a necessary tool for progress and empowerment.
He stated that the newly established offices will serve as a focal point for addressing issues concerning Lango culture, including both challenges and successes.
Furthermore, he encouraged his cabinet members to make effective use of this office to address Lango cultural issues and promote community development.

Laury Lawrence Ocen, the Lango Cultural Foundation’s speaker, thanked Yosam Odur Ebii for his efforts to promote peace in Lango. This acknowledgment emphasizes the importance of leadership and cultural institutions in fostering community peace and unity.
