Parliament approves shs1 trillion for State House, Lubowa hospital

On Thursday, Uganda’s Parliament overwhelmingly approved a supplementary budget request.

The MPs, both from the ruling and opposition parties, were persuaded prior to approval.

They approved a budget totalling shs1.050 trillion. Shs53.119 billion will go towards the construction of Lubowa Hospital.

Last week, Health Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng informed Parliament that shs1.5 billion would be required for the supervision of Lunowa hospital construction.

Out of shs53 billion, shs1.5 billion will be used solely for supervision. By last week, she said the construction status stands at 25%.

Meanwhile, Shs234.75 billion has been approved for classified expenditure at State House.

Regarding Lubowa, the government assured MPs that construction of Lubowa hospital would be completed by April 2025.

Lubowa hospital’s total construction costs exceed $300 million.

It will automatically become the most expensive government of Uganda hospital by construction value in the history of the country.
