Entebbe International Airport recorded an average of 6,097 passengers per day in November 2024, tndNews understands.
The same month saw a total of 182,932 international passengers. Out of this, 91,867 arrived and 91,065 left the country.
Between January and November 2024, a total of 2,020,787 international passengers were recorded. 1,000,563 people arrived, while 1,020,224 departed.
Meanwhile, between January and November 2023, a total of 1,733,133 international passengers were recorded, compared to 1,417,615 from January to November 2022.
According to Vianney Mpungu Luggya, manager public affairs at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), traffic increased by 17.8% between January and November 2024.
Luggya noted a 5.6% increase in aircraft movements, with 29,751 recorded from January to November 2024 compared to 28,167 in the same period in 2023 and 26,511 in January to November 2022.
“Overflights over Ugandan airspace recorded an 8.2% increase, with 23,052 registered between January and November 2024, compared to 21,300 in January to November 2023, and 13,862 in the same period in 2022,” he said.
Transit passengers decreased slightly to 99,530 from January to November 2024, compared to 117,604 in January to November 2023 and 101,396 in the same period of 2022.
In terms of cargo, he stated that there was an increase in figures, with 61,393 metric tones registered from January to November 2024 (41,012 metric tones of exports and 20,381 metric tones of imports), compared to 53,803 metric tones from January to November 2023 and 56,272 metric tones from the same period in 2022.
November 2024 saw a total of 5,730 metric tons of cargo (3,703 tons of exports and 2,027 tons of imports).
Tourism and Uganda’s hosting of international events such as the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and G77+ have contributed to the increase in international passengers, he revealed.
Luggya stated that a stable economic environment led to increased international trade.
Commercial aircraft movements have increased as new air operators entered Ugandan airspace and Uganda Airlines opened new routes to Abuja, Lagos, and Mumbai.
