The Lango sub-region has lost another distinguished son, just a few weeks after George Mawa and Moses Serikinti Ekuka Ogwal Adongo passed away.
On Thursday, the news of the death of Benjamin Olwa, widely known as “Olwa Cabun,” became public.
Dickson Ogwang Okul, his “son,” who is also the Awitong and Won Nyaci Attorney, announced his death.
The sad news was followed by “words of remembrance” from elders such as Tom Anang Odur (Awitong), among others.
Benjamin Olwa, born in Amwa village, Baramindyang, Ayer, Kole district, was a trailblazer. He established Uganda’s first private soap manufacturing “factory” in Lango.
The soap brand “Olwa Cabun” was named after him.
tndNews understands that he died peacefully on Christmas Day at Mulago Hospital in Kampala.
He was one of the Constituent Assembly Delegates from Lango.
Olwa became the district chairman of Apac in 2001, succeeding Molly Ogweng, who was the Vice LC5 of Apac and had taken office following the death of former LC5 chairman Raymond Ogom Arac.
In addition to his political contributions, he was the visionary founder of the APAC Development Agency.
Burial
The funeral arrangements state that a vigil will take place at his son, Dr. Moses Ongom’s home in Naalya, Kampala, on December 26, 2024, at 5:30 p.m.
Daily vigils will continue at the family home in Kole.
The burial is scheduled for Wednesday, January 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., in Amwa village, Baramindyang, Kole district.
The Bishop of West Lango Diocese, Rt. Rev. Ceaser Nina Otim, has asked the Archdeacon of St. Mathias Church of Uganda, Baramindyang, to handle the funeral arrangements.
The Bishop has also urged family members, friends, in-laws, and political allies to band together to ensure a dignified farewell for the trailblazer.
