Lira | Sixteen journalists from the Lango, Acholi, and Bunyoro subregions completed a three-day Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) training program.
The training took place from Monday to Wednesday, November 13, at the Armaflex Hotel in Lira City.
This InfoNile-organized training was designed to provide journalists with the skills they need to effectively cover climate-smart agricultural practices and their role in mitigating the effects of climate change.
The training included a number of interactive sessions and discussions led by experts and senior journalists who have extensively covered the subject.
Participants learned about the core principles of climate-smart agriculture, such as sustainable farming practices, soil health management, water conservation, and the importance of biodiversity.
The training emphasized the media’s critical role in raising public awareness and educating communities on the significance of CSA.
Journalists were encouraged to generate story ideas about innovative agricultural practices and the effects of climate change on local farming communities.
On Wednesday, journalists were trained on data and how to visualize it. Primrose Natukunda, InfoNile’s data officer, stated: “Data alone does not tell a story; you must understand what it represents and why it is important.”

The event concluded with a networking session, giving journalists the opportunity to connect and collaborate on future projects.
Attendees expressed gratitude for the valuable knowledge they gained and promised to use their platforms to promote sustainable agricultural practices.
InfoNile says it will continue to support journalists in their efforts to report on climate-related issues, recognizing that well-informed reporting is critical for building community resilience in the face of environmental challenges.
Meanwhile, journalists from the West Nile sub-region convened in Arua City for the same training.
The training for editors whose journalists had been trained started on Thursday through Friday in Arua and Lira, respectively.
Editors who received training and capacity building in Lira City have promised to collaborate, mentor, and support their reporters in producing data-driven stories on climate smart agriculture, the environment, and climate change.
