Retired soldiers urged to promote national development

Nakasongola | Brig Gen Charles Byanyima, Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Motorised Infantry Division, has urged retired soldiers to continue contributing to national development by supporting government initiatives.

Byanyima advised them to focus on community unity rather than divisive political activities.

While presiding over the send-off ceremony for Non-Commissioned Officers in Nakasongola, the Brig Gen urged the officers to manage their retirement benefits responsibly, engage positively with their communities, and respect leaders at all levels in order to foster unity and collaboration.

Col David Mugisha, the Cantonment Commander, thanked the retired soldiers for their service and reminded them of the importance of looking after their health, as they had been fortunate to complete their duties safely.

He encouraged them to continue responsibly caring for their families and to cultivate positive relationships with civilians, emphasizing the importance of community collaboration for mutual success and harmony.

Lt (Rtd) Saleh Kamba, the Resident District Commissioner of Nakasongola, emphasized to the retired officers that they are “retired, not tired.”

Saleh emphasised that their relationship with the government will continue as long as they are valued citizens.

He encouraged them to continue participating in government projects, stating that learning is a lifelong process and that their experience is an invaluable asset to national progress.
