Muhoozi’s undiplomatic remarks will damage foreign relations

Ugandans with internet access have read divisive remarks made by the son of the country’s longest-serving president, Museveni Yoweri, not just this year but years prior.

President Museveni, 80, has ruled Uganda for nearly 40 years. His son, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugabe, is fearless and does not hesitate to terrify everyone, including some of the institutions he oversees.

Feeling fortunate that one day he will succeed his father, Muhoozi, 50, has threatened Kenya in recent years. He later retracted his threats, though.

A few weeks ago, he ordered the US ambassador to Uganda, William Popp, to apologize to President Museveni or face deportation.

America did not give in to his demands. However, reports indicate that on October 10, Popp met with Museveni, along with Foreign Affairs Minister Gen Jeje Odongo, Gen Muhoozi, and a few others.

Fears

Some Ugandans at home and in the diaspora believe Gen Muhoozi’s constant threats are bad news for the country’s international relations.

In an interview with tndNews, Ugandan James Mugeni, who lives in Iowa, USA, stated that the Ugandan State is inextricably linked to Museveni’s family.

He also stated that the “institutions are all captured, and the son, as a deputy god, has his fingers in all the pi*s.” “The little devil that the US helped raise has grown up.”

“If they are just starting to notice, they are dealing with a dangerous situation; this is deliberate blindness. So many people have left Uganda, including myself, because the guys who gave the USA an ultimatum to leave Uganda made the country unworkable for ordinary people and professionals,” he added.

Asked how the statements would affect Kampala-Washington diplomatic relations in the short and long term, Mugeni observed that Washington must bear some of the consequences of the bad governance it has fostered by funding a non-accountable dictatorship with billions of dollars from American taxpayers each year.

“In the short and long term, a dictatorship cannot coexist with a democratic system. The same reason North Korea cannot fit in America. A square peg in a round hole.”

Mugeni advised Uganda to establish the rule of law and ensure that no one, no matter how high, is above the law.

“Muhoozi breaks Ugandan laws because his father enacted them. They hold contempt for Uganda and Ugandans. How do you advise a man surrounded by obedient sycophants?”

According to him, Uganda is on a dangerous path, with the dictatorship attempting to establish a North Korean-style dynasty.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is only one of the captured institutions! What can it do?”

‘Muhoozi needs medication tests’

Mugeni, a public health professional, stated that Gen. Muhoozi may be suffering from a “psychotic” condition, which medicine is attempting to treat.

“Muhoozi, when you look at what he shares in public, is a classic example of someone with mental health issues – most go unnoticed,” he explained.

“According to the Ministry of Health, 70% of Ugandans have a functional mental illness diagnosis, and Muhoozi is no exception,” Mugeni observed.
