GCW Obua calls Lango for support at coronation fundraising dinner

Kampala | Denis Hamson Obua, the national chairperson of the coronation committee for the Paramount Chief of Lango, has rallied the people of Lango to support the second fundraising dinner.

On March 1, 2024, Eng. Dr. Micheal Moses Odongo Okune was elected to succeed incumbent Won Nyaci Mzee Yosam Odur Ebii.

According to Tom Otim, the head of the Lango cultural election commission, Dr. Dan Okello finished second in that poll with 138 votes.

With the coronation month scheduled for October 31 to November 2, 2024, Government Chip Whip and Ajuri County MP in Alebtong district launched the “first coronation fundraising dinner” on Saturday, August 31, at Ndere Centre in Ntinda, Kampala.

Speaking on behalf of the Chief Guest, Premier Robinah Nabbanja, the outspoken GCW urged the people of Lango to fully support the coronation process, which will be an expression of pride, unity, peace, and solidarity.

Nabbanja, through Obua, also contributed shs 10 million to the coronation ceremony.

“Just like our motto says, Note en Teko interpreted as Unity is Strength ……once we are united, we can be able to lobby for support on key critical issues that affect the people of the Lango sub-region, both in fight against poverty and streamlining the path of development,” Obua said.

He also called for joint efforts in combating poverty among the people of Lango and also to revive the agenda of Lango immediately after the enthronement.

GCW Obua also emphasised that the people of Lango in Uganda and in the diaspora should take up the coronation, stating that they must own the entire process, particularly by supporting the second and final fundraising coronation dinners.

Meanwhile, Maxwell Akora, the national vice-chairman of the coronation, revealed in his speech to the Lango community that the estimated budget for the coronation is shs2.89 billion.

“The budget stands at shs2.89 billion and this money should come from us through contribution from the clan heads and their subjects, individual contributions from the people of Lango, partners among others,” he added.
