Amolatar

Amolatar| On July 3, 2023, approximately 100 angry people, primarily leaders from various sub-counties in Amolatar, staged an uninterrupted demonstration.

The demonstration began at 11 a.m. from Amolatar Town Council.

Police and the RDC’s office were able to engage these angry demonstrators, who were expressing their displeasure with how funds for road construction in the district were abused.

The demonstrators, led by Felix Adupa Ongwech, accuse CAO Stephen Mbiiwa of promoting graft in the district.

Adupa’s led demonstration was described as “peaceful” and had previously been approved by the district’s police chiefs.

SP According to Jimmy Patrick Okema, North Kyoga Regional Police PRO, this demonstration was held to protest the mismanagement of funds intended for a road infrastructure project by district officials in Amotar.

Amolatar DPC Katumaba Christopher and RDC Okello Francis Odoki Rwotlonyo spoke with the demonstrators.

The following action points were emphasised:

  • Police must investigate allegations of abuse of office and corruption within seven days under GEF: 10/2024.
  • The demonstrators vowed that if they do not receive a response within seven working days, they will organise “a more serious demonstration” to the district headquarters.

At the district, they will lock officers’ offices and hand over the keys to the RDC, who will deliver them to the Ministry of Local Government.
