Amolatar women leaders offered mindset change training

Amolatar | Over 200 women council leaders from Amolatar district received mindset change, social-economic, and development training.

It was organised by Agness Atim Apea (PhD), a district woman Member of Parliament, in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development.

Leaders are expected to apply the skills learned during the one-day event to address issues such as food security, domestic violence, saving culture, and leadership.

MP Apea urged leaders to carry out the tasks for which they were elected as women council leaders, including embracing government programmes.

She also asked training participants to keep food at home whenever it was harvested in order to combat food insecurity, which primarily affects women and children.

Apea also urged women to respect and love their husbands in order to avoid the current trend of suicides caused by domestic violence.

She told her fellow women that the vice has spread so quickly in Amolatar.

She alluded to good saving habits, stating that they are the most effective way for women and others to escape poverty.

The 200 women received over 200 cashew nut seedlings from their woman MP.

Kalla Teddy Ojok, the district commercial officer, urged women to gather in groups. She encouraged them to always have money sent to the district for their projects.

Amolatar district has already disbursed over shs9 billion to various SACCO groups, she revealed, with women receiving shs2 billion of the total amount.

Sam Peter Onyang, the Amolatar district vice LC5 chairperson, stated that without women, most homes in the district would go hungry.

He urged women to continue working hard to provide for their spouses.

Onyanga advised mothers to avoid alcohol consumption.

Adur Evaline, one of the trainees, praised MP Apea for always supporting women. She promised to spread the gospel of what she had been taught.

Mary Ococ, another trainee, welcomed the idea of saving and promised to implement the culture.

The training was held on June 4 at Amolatar town council.
