Women of “Christ” who refused census, calling it evil, are remanded

Census

Amolatar| On May 16, three women from Follow Christ Church were remanded by the Amolatar Grade One Magistrate Court.

The women were arrested on May 14 for refusing to take part in the ongoing national population and housing census 2024.

They ‘baptised’ the census as ‘evil,’ and claimed that President Museveni is being used by the “devils” to rule the country.

Apili Nancy was referred to as ‘A1’, Awor Monica as ‘A2’, and Akite Jennifer as ‘A3’ when they appeared before the lower court.

All of them live in Muntu sub-county’s Odyak Trading Centre and are currently being held on remand.

His Worship Hassan Butoto Masaba, a Grade One Magistrate, asked the accused to explain to the court why they are not supporting the ongoing national programme.

However, they referred to it as “an evil act.”

Butoto refused to accept the State prosecutor’s submission and remanded the three to Amolatar government prison until May 22.

He informed the court that the suspects would be forced to be counted as part of the institution arrangement. However, he believes they require guidance and counselling.

One of the suspects, Akite Jennifer, stated that she does not bow to worldly programmes such as censuses because they are being counted by the heavenly father.

It is understood by tndNews that a group consisting of district officials, the RDC, and an ISO team met with the suspects for counselling; sadly, they did not follow through.

The penalties under the Census Act include imprisonment for up to six months, a fine of no more than 30 currency points (shs600,000), or both.
